The Future of Asia 2017: “Globalism at a crossroads ~ Asia’s next move”
Brexit and the US President Trump’s “America First” policy showed us that a more inward-looking mindset has been taking root among citizens frustrated with inequality and immigration. Such backlash against globalism has considerable effect on Asia. Once agreed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement was abandoned by Trump, and most Asian leaders get confused. China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative is also attracting attention. Regional problems including the South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula are crucial as well.
At the 23rd international conference on The Future of Asia held in the early June, Asian political and business leaders gathered and discussed the way to deal with such uncertainty, how such movements are affecting policy, and what the next move is for Asia. The special program combines the conference coverage with one-on-one interviews to major speakers.
